Association of Pagan Therapists

There is a new Association of Pagan Therapists forming — so far through the use of a Meetup group.  You can click here to see their webpage:

http://www.meetup.com/Association-of-Pagan-Therapists/

This group is growing out of the recent Pantheacon conference.

The initial focus would seem to be on growing an association of Pagan professionals, advocacy, and perhaps developing tools for other therapists and the community.  This discussion of what the association should be is ongoing.  I’ve joined to participate and check it out.

The focus of the separate and pre-existing Pagan Professional Counseling Yahoo Group has so far been more on case consultations, and peer support for fellow Pagan therapists.

Hard to say if these will remain separate in focus or come together in some way.

It would be phenomenal if, eventually, there were related resources for patients on finding pagan and pagan-friendly counselors. Unless there is one already that I haven’t been able to find?

Hi Colleen — I agree. A few years ago when last I tried this the numbers were too low and confidentiality concerns too high. That is, I had several dozen therapists on the Pagan Professional Counseling listserv, but not all of them were in private practice or able to be publically Pagan. So I ended up with a public “directory” with about 5 therapists in it nation-wide in the USA.

Right now, the best course of action is to email me and I’ll put inquiries out on the Pagan Professional Counseling list (now at 100+ members) and see if anyone in your area steps forward.

    Thanks,
    Michael

That’s a bummer! I can definitely understand their concerns about confidentiality, though. Having a “middle man” like yourself to relay patients’ needs to a private list of potential therapists seems like a good compromise.

    Hi-
I’m creating a directory of Pagan and Pagan-friendly therapists on the Black Mountain Druid Order website. If anyone would be interested in a free listing, please contact me!

I don’t know if anyone will see this.

However, I am a Pagan Psychotherapist finalizing a PhD that explores how nature affects empathy perception in adolescents/young adults.
I have attempted myself to find network of like-minded mental health professionals and clients who share both our beliefs and mental health advancement.

Hi Sandy — Check out the Yahoo Group referenced on this website. It’s not highly active, but its still in existence.

    Thanks,
    Michael
